The UN Secretary-General’s Study on Violence against Children revealed appalling levels of violence against children. NGOs have a key role in
working on follow-up to the Study to ensure that violence against children is challenged wherever and whenever it occurs.
Challenging Violence against Children offers practical support and advice on, for example:
• strengthening commitments and action to protect children at local, national and international levels
• ways to promote non-violent values
• how to involve children in research and advocacy.
Checklists and recommendations are included for ending violence in different settings – the home and family, schools, and in care and justice systems.
“This very welcome handbook provides practical advice on NGOs’ involvement in ensuring that States work urgently to fulfil their obligations to respect children’s right to protection from all forms of violence.”
